Summer...

At last we are getting a taste of summer after a late and uncertain spring.

We seem to be getting a good consistent level of support for the additional guests we are booking, which is of course essential to keep the club viable. You indicated your preference for 2 guests a month, and so far it seems to be working out. Some of the people we have lined up require a minimum in order to come, and so far we are keeping to our policy of funding our guests via the hat-take. This is only possible because our regulars give generously, and if it were not the case we would have to consider charging on the door. When we have reasonable funds in hand, we are prepared to subsidise some evenings where necessary, and this is our way of giving something back to those of you who support us.

This month we have our own Bob Kenward. In November we have John Kirkpatrick who many will remember for his appearance on TV in the Victorian Farm, and next February we have a visit from Dave Swarbrick, perhaps the best known fiddler on the folk scene. But in addition to these we like to think we have a good balanced programme with something for everyone.

Enjoy the festivals and please do continue to support us!

Regards

Roger Resch

Mon 6 Sep 2010: Fiona Larcombe and Terry Mann

Welcome return for this duo who made such a good impact last time, and were voted a club favourite! Superb singing of traditional songs accompanied by a variety of instruments.

Mon 20 Sep 2010: John Kelly

"Harmonium Hero". Back on the folk scene after a few years' absence, he specialises in mainly traditional song, accompanied by the harmonium and other instruments. He made a good impression on our audience when he did an extended floor spot at one of our singarounds last year.

Mon 4 Oct 2010: Malcolm Ward

Though blessed with a robust 'shanty' voice, Malcolm is also able to deliver tender ballads unaccompanied or with his own concertina accompaniment. He has been known to recite the odd monologue expertly as well. Although one of our residents, this is your chance to hear him do a full set.

Mon 18 Oct 2010: Roy Clinging

Largely traditional song, in particular from his native Cheshire, accompanied by English concertina and guitar. He was well received at the club last year when he did a floor spot!

Mon 1 Nov 2010: Trotwood

Celtic band consisting of three generations of a French family! Superb renderings of Irish music and song with a variety of instruments, and flawless English. An experience not to be missed.

Mon 15 Nov 2010: John Kirkpatrick

A legend amongst squeezebox players! Well remembered for his part in the television series The Victorian Farm, now is your chance to see him live in "The Victorian Farmer’s Year in Song".

Mon 6 Dec 2010: Elsie’s Band

Long time club favourite, this legendary local band is still celebrating the successful launch of its first album. Good harmony singing both traditional and written by members of the group, with skilled accompaniments by Iris Bishop.
