home/programme > about AboutThe Tonbridge Folk Club (Nellie's) meets on the first and third Mondays of each month from 8-11 pm. The first Monday of the month is a musicians' and singers' night. The third Monday of the month features a guest performance. Evenings usually begin with a few tunes (based mainly on the Lewes Arms tune book). These are followed by floor singers, and, on guest nights, the guest. After a short interval (with a raffle to help towards the club's running costs), the pattern is repeated in the second half. On guest nights a hat collection is taken for the guest and a contribution of £5 (or what you can afford) is suggested. Musicians and singers are welcome and encouraged to perform and join in, but it's not compulsory! You are welcome to come along and just listen. The last meeting before Christmas is specially devoted to a performance by the Tonbridge Mummers and Hoodeners.

HistoryTonbridge Folk Club was founded by Geoff Doel in 1979 as Nellie's, and took its name from a ghost reputed to haunt its first venue. After occupying various places in Tonbridge and nearby Hildenborough, it now gathers in a function room of the Rose and Crown Hotel in Tonbridge High Street. WebsiteLaunched 13 May 2008. |
